<< Back to the Street Champions page

The following hints and tips apply to the Street Champion role. If there is anything we’ve missed please let us know. You will need WhatsApp administrator rights within the community to perform these steps. Please get in touch via the Street Champions WhatsApp channel if you don’t have this.

What do I do if someone on my street wants to join?

If someone one your street has heard about the community and wants to join our group, please give them the following registration link:

https://sherwooddales.org.uk/register

It would be great if you could also let us know in the Street Champions WhatsApp group. This helps us be ready to approve their registration when it arrives in our inbox.

Often people hear about the WhatsApp group first and ask to join that. We like people to register with the site first; they are given details of the WhatsApp group once their registration has been approved.

How do I share street group WhatsApp messages?

If a message is shared in your WhatsApp street group that is relevant to everyone, you can use the following steps to share it with the wider community.

When should I share?

It’s totally up to you what to share, but we suggest sharing a message when:

  • It may be useful or relevant beyond your own street.
  • The wider community may be able to help.
  • It highlights a recurring issue rather than a one-off complaint.

If you’re unsure, it’s fine to ask in the Street Champions WhatsApp channel first.

How do I share?

Please use the following steps to share the message to the wider community:

  1. In your street WhatsApp group, select the message(s) you want to share. On most devices this means pressing and holding the message. On a computer you can click the little arrow that appears when you hover over the message. In some cases there may be a double headed arrow you can press.
  2. Choose Forward from the options that appear. This may be shown as a forward arrow or a menu option, depending on the device you are using.
  3. Use the search feature to find and select the group named Sherwood Dales Community.
  4. On some devices you have the option to add a message to explain why you’re forwarding the message. Please do so if you think this will help, but don’t feel you need to rewrite the original message.
  5. Press Send to share the message.
  6. Return to your WhatsApp home page and check that you can see your message in the Sherwood Dales Community group. Feel free to go into this group and add more information if you feel it would be helpful to our neighbours.

There is no expectation to forward messages immediately. Please only do so when it suits you.
