Ay-up neighbours!

Thank you to everyone who attended our first Sherwood Dales Neighbourhood Watch and Community members’ meeting on Thursday 27th November. It was great to see over 60 neighbours in attendance and to have such lively discussions. We were pleased to welcome some new faces, hear new perspectives, and have Councillor Nayab Patel join us to speak and answer your questions.

Below you’ll find the slides we presented on the night.

One of the key messages we want to emphasise is that we aim to act in line with the majority view. We want our actions to reflect what most neighbours want, while staying open to implementation ideas from individuals.

Volunteering

We were delighted that several residents volunteered to support various activities, especially around the Notify a Neighbour scheme. We are also pleased to announce that Judith Penney (Ridsdale Road) will be leading our gardening activities going forward. We may also have found our future group treasurers—updates to follow.

We are still looking for residents to volunteer as Street Champions to help coordinate communication between streets. For example, if a cat goes missing on Cragdale Road, the Street Champion for that road would be able to broadcast the message through our announcements channel.

If you’d like to help, please use our contact form.

Environmental Survey

We shared the results of the recent Environmental Survey. A number of actions are in hand or planned, including two important meetings early in the New Year:

  • A meeting with the Head of Highways to discuss roads, pavements, trees and weeds.
  • A meeting with Flood Risk Management (Nottingham City Council) to discuss the rain gardens, safety concerns, and options for replanting and funding.

Registered users can view the results of the survey on our 2025 Environmental Survey Results page.

Parking Permits

Several residents told us they had difficulties using the council website to request or renew parking permits. Unfortunately, the link in the Council reminder emails is currently faulty. Please use the following working link instead:

https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/information-for-residents/transport-parking-and-streets/badges-and-permits/parking-permits/resident-parking-permits

Please note: this link goes to a system that is not the main council website, so your usual council login details might not work. Use the Forgotten Username/Password feature if needed or set up a new account. A useful tip is to tick the Council Tax Lookup Permission box before submission—this avoids needing to upload your council tax bill.

There was discussion around potential misuse of permits. We have learned that Tudor House Medical Practice is considered part of the estate and therefore has been issued a small number of permits. While many residents use and value the practice, staff parking is causing difficulties for those on Covedale and Cragdale Roads. We intend to engage with the practice to encourage staff to park in areas without housing, such as alongside the hedges on Mossdale Road.

We also understand that some hospital workers may have visitor permits issued by residents. Please note that distributing visitor permits in this way may result in the permits being revoked under Council rules.

If you have spare driveway space and would be happy for health workers to park there while at work, please let us know—we can coordinate this with City Hospital.

Larwood Grove

Residents of Larwood Grove have approached us asking to be included in our community. There were no objections to this at the meeting, so we will be inviting them to join us in the New Year.

Police

Unfortunately, representatives from the police were unable to join us on the night. However, we do still have a small number of Police notebooks and pens to give away—if you’d like one, please let us know via the email address below.

As outlined in the attached slides, we’ve been working on building stronger channels of communication with the police and improving the mutual sharing of information about incidents and crimes. This matters not only because crime levels are a useful indicator of success for us, but also because better intelligence helps us increase vigilance and take preventative measures when needed.

We reiterated our request that you keep us in the loop if you witness incidents or crimes (in addition to reporting them to the police) using our Report Crimes and Incidents form, and that you let us know if you have recording devices at your property (e.g. CCTV and/or camera doorbells) via our CCTV and Smart Doorbell Register. This allows us to maintain a list, which can save time when collecting evidence after an incident.

We are still investigating possible solutions to reduce vehicle speeds on the estate.

Finally, we talked about the new Street Watch initiative.

Improving Future Meetings

We want future meetings to be as useful and engaging as possible. Please use our contact form to give us your feedback on how meetings could be improved.

We are considering more breakout discussions next time to encourage smaller, problem-solving-focused conversations. We are also aware that some attendees struggled to hear the first half of the meeting and that the projector screen was difficult to read. We’ll work on improving both for next time.

We will also be sending a short survey soon to gauge preferences on venue and timing for future meetings.

Tarrah for now, mi ducks!
